The Role
Hedland SHS is currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educational leader to join the school’s senior leadership team as Program Coordinator – Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Hedland SHS has a history of strong achievement in the VET and alternate pathway sphere, and the successful applicant should possess an innovative and strategic approach in promoting and building on this success into the future. The applicant will ideally have an excellent understanding of VET in the secondary context and a track record in developing and maintaining partnerships with industry, small businesses, training and other organisations to provide and maximise student opportunities. The ideal applicant will be a highly motivated and productive leader and guide the Career Practitioner in developing and implementing individual pathway planning for students, leading to students’ achievement of their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
The Program Coordinator – VET will ideally lead, manage, and plan all aspects of the school's VET, workplace learning, university enabling programs, endorsed programs and other training-related curriculum programs in collaboration with the Deputy Principal of Senior School and the VET and Careers Team. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the ideal applicant will have recent experience leading staff within a VET team. The ability to manage and oversee workplace learning is highly desirable. Responsibilities include providing curriculum leadership in VET and work collaboratively with the Executive Team and Senior School Team to achieve positive student outcomes across the school into the future.
The successful applicant will ideally possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and provide professional leadership to teachers and other staff members in VET curriculum matters. The ability to analyse student performance data and use this in planning is critical. The Program Coordinator – VET is responsible for this business area's annual reflection, review, and operational planning cycle.
Other responsibilities may include the oversight and implementation of opportunities such as pathway planning and guidance, and the Year 10 course counselling process.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Hedland SHS in 2026 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $4 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
