Newington College is seeking an exceptional educational leader to join our Stanmore Secondary campus as Director of Teaching & Learning (7–12). This is a key leadership role responsible for driving high-quality teaching practice, academic rigour, and a culture of curiosity and engagement across Years 7–12.
About the role
Reporting to the Deputy, Academic (K–12), you will lead the development and implementation of evidence-based teaching and learning practices across the secondary school. You will work closely with the Academic Executive and Heads of Department to strengthen curriculum design, assessment practices, and student outcomes.
This is a highly visible leadership position, with a 0.4 teaching load, and involvement in whole-school strategic priorities. The position is expected to commence in Term 4 2026 or Term 1 2027. It is negotiable with the right candidate.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and embed high-quality, evidence-based pedagogy across Years 7–12
- Drive academic outcomes through data-informed analysis and targeted interventions
- Strengthen curriculum and assessment design in collaboration with academic leaders
- Champion a culture of rigour, curiosity and academic engagement
- Contribute to the embedding of critical thinking across the curriculum.
- Lead the implementation of Teaching & Learning frameworks and professional learning
- Oversee academic programs including IGCSE and enrichment initiatives
- Guide best practice in the use of AI and educational technology
- Build strong relationships with staff, students and families

You are an experienced instructional leader who:
- Holds relevant teaching qualifications and NESA accreditation
- Has strong knowledge of HSC and/or IB (IGCSE experience desirable)
- Demonstrates strong leadership in teaching and learning innovation
- Is data-driven, strategic, and highly collaborative
- Has a passion for improving student outcomes and teacher practice
- Communicates effectively and builds strong stakeholder relationships
- Is committed to ongoing professional growth and excellence
- Show a genuine appreciation and commitment to pastoral care
