Job Description
Digital Solutions is a strategic IT partner delivering high-quality digital experiences for students, staff, and the community. Within this, Cyber Security protects Griffith’s information, systems, and operations through proactive and responsive measures.
The Manager, Cyber Security Operations leads security monitoring, incident response, threat detection, and exposure management. The role ensures effective cyber defences across people, processes, and technology, aligned with Griffith’s risk profile, regulatory requirements, and frameworks such as the ACSC Essential Eight and NIST CSF.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage Griffith’s cyber security operations, including 24/7 monitoring, detection, and incident response, ensuring effective coverage, processes, and escalation across internal teams and providers.
Oversee incident management end-to-end, leading responses to complex events, coordinating stakeholders, supporting recovery, and driving post-incident reviews and improvements.
Continuously enhance threat detection by optimising SIEM, EDR, intelligence use, automation, and response playbooks.
Lead exposure management by identifying, prioritising, and remediating risks, overseeing testing and assurance activities, and ensuring alignment with Essential Eight targets.
Provide expert advice on operational risk, contribute to strengthening controls and standards, and ensure insights inform broader risk management.
Manage cyber security vendors to meet performance expectations and support incident response when needed.
Drive process improvements to increase efficiency, automation, and operational maturity.
Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering capability growth and strong performance outcomes.
Build effective relationships across the University, clearly communicating risks and impacts, while promoting compliance, professionalism, and a strong cyber security culture.
About you

Postgraduate qualifications in Cyber Security, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience in Cyber Security operations, including demonstrated leadership of teams delivering operational security services.

Willingness to participate in an on-call roster and act as an escalation point for on-call activities.

This is a full time, continuing opportunity based at Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations

Salary
$161,763.51 + 17% super - Full package $189,263.31.
