About BlueCap Minerals
BlueCap Minerals is an Australian airborne geophysics and mineral exploration services company specialising in UAV magnetic surveys, LiDAR terrain mapping and remote-sensing solutions for mineral exploration.
BlueCap operates an integrated survey workflow covering mission planning, field acquisition, geophysical QA/QC, data processing, interpretation and delivery of exploration-ready datasets.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Geologist – Geophysics & Geospatial Data to support our growing mineral exploration and geophysical survey operations.
THE ROLE
The successful candidate will work across geological interpretation, geophysical and geospatial data processing, and quality assurance, supporting mineral exploration projects from field data acquisition through to the review of technical outputs.
The position combines office-based technical work with participation in selected field campaigns across Australia, including remote project locations where required.
The role works closely with BlueCap’s geologists, geophysicists, survey crews and project management team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Process and quality-control magnetic, geophysical and spatial survey datasets.
• Perform geophysical QA/QC, including assessment of survey consistency, positioning, noise, anomalies and overall data quality.
• Process magnetic survey data and prepare profiles, grids, maps and other exploration outputs.
• Process and validate LiDAR and terrain datasets, including filtering, classification, alignment, tiling and generation of DTM/DSM or equivalent terrain products.
• Integrate geological, magnetic, LiDAR and other relevant spatial datasets.
• Support geological and geophysical interpretation for mineral exploration and target evaluation.
• Review data accuracy and identify acquisition or processing issues before final delivery.
• Prepare accurate technical maps, reports and other reviewed project deliverables.
• Clearly document processing inputs, parameters, checks, exceptions and review decisions.
• Work with field and technical teams to identify data-quality issues and improve acquisition and processing outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of geophysical processing, QA/QC, reporting and data-delivery workflows.
• Participate in selected field campaigns and project activities where required.
ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Geology, Applied Geology, Geophysics, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, Geomatics or a closely related discipline.
• Relevant professional experience in mineral exploration, geology, geophysics, spatial-data processing, technical surveying or a closely related professional environment.
• Demonstrated experience taking geological, geophysical or spatial data through documented QA/QC, processing and reviewed technical output.
• Practical experience with magnetic, LiDAR, terrain, geospatial or comparable technical datasets.
• Applied quantitative skills relevant to data processing, quality assessment, filtering, statistics, signal processing or uncertainty.
• Ability to integrate geological and geophysical or spatial information and contribute to technically defensible interpretations.
• Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, auditable and technically documented work.
• Strong written and spoken English suitable for technical communication and project documentation.
• Ability and willingness to participate in agreed field campaigns and travel to project locations when required.
DESIRABLE TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
Experience with some of the following would be advantageous:
• QGIS
• Oasis montaj
• Python and scientific/data-processing libraries
• MATLAB
• Git or other version-controlled technical workflows
• PDAL, LAStools or CloudCompare
• Geophysical inversion and modelling packages
• RTK GNSS, IMU/PPK and UAV-derived survey datasets
• Automated QA/QC and geophysical processing workflows
• Geostatistics and geological data integration
Candidates are not required to have experience with every software package or technology listed above. Equivalent professional tools, relevant experience and demonstrated technical capability will be considered.
UAV AND FIELD EXPERIENCE
Previous drone-pilot experience or a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) is not a requirement for this position.
BlueCap’s certified operational personnel remain responsible for aircraft operations.
The successful candidate may participate in selected field campaigns to connect data-processing and interpretation decisions with acquisition conditions and to work directly with BlueCap’s survey and technical teams.
Field participation may involve regional or remote locations and periods away from home depending on project requirements.
SELECTION PROCESS
All applicants will be assessed against the same published role-related selection criteria.
Applications will be assessed on relevant qualifications, professional experience and demonstrated technical capability.
Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a short, time-limited technical assessment involving representative geophysical QA/QC, magnetic data processing, LiDAR/terrain processing, spatial data analysis, or geological interpretation.
The assessment is designed solely to evaluate relevant professional skills and will not involve unpaid client or production work.
Shortlisted candidates may also participate in a structured technical interview covering relevant experience, processing methods, QA/QC, geological reasoning and communication of technical results.
Reasonable adjustments can be provided during the recruitment process for candidates who require them.
LOCATION AND FIELD WORK
The position is based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, with project-based field deployment throughout Australia where required.
BlueCap’s work is project-driven and travel to regional or remote exploration sites may form part of the position.
REMUNERATION
AUD $180,000 – $210,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications, relevant professional experience and demonstrated technical capability.
Additional project-related benefits may apply depending on the position and project requirements.
SPONSORSHIP
Employer sponsorship may be available for a suitably qualified candidate who meets the position's requirements and applicable Australian immigration requirements.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit:
• your current CV;
• details of your relevant geological, geophysical or geospatial experience; and
• examples of relevant technical work where appropriate, such as maps, reports, processed datasets, notebooks, repositories or other professional outputs.
BlueCap Minerals welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates who meet the position's requirements.
