CFA is an emergency service that places the community at the centre of everything we do. We work to protect lives and property across Victoria, every hour of the day.
Our organisation is made up of employees working alongside more than 51,000 volunteers. We value the different skills, experience and viewpoints that people bring, because they strengthen how we operate and support the services Victorians rely on.
We aim to be a workplace where people feel supported to do meaningful work, develop professionally and contribute to outcomes that matter to the people and places we serve.

About the Role
This newly created permanent role is part of the ongoing evolution and maturing of category management at CFA. The Procurement Category Manager supports CFA's emergency response capability by managing, sourcing, supplier engagement, and contract governance for fleet assets including pumpers and tankers that are specialised builds as well as related services. The category lifecycle includes acquisition, maintenance and disposal.
As the fleet category subject matter expert, you will collaborate with business units to champion procurement processes and align purchasing decisions with organisational priorities. You will lead category strategy development, provide oversight to Senior Procurement Analysts, manage high-value sourcing activities, and drive supplier engagement and contract governance. Through data-driven insights, market intelligence, and strategic sourcing, you will help shape CFA's fleet category, ensuring procurement practices are fit-for-purpose, compliant, and support the organisation's emergency response capability.
This is an opportunity to influence how an emergency services organisation invests in its fleet, build long-term supplier partnerships, lead meaningful change, and see the direct impact of your work on the communities we serve. The role is based at Burwood East but there will also be requirements to work from the State Logistics Centre at Scoresby, the city office and travel may be required to other regional locations.
About you
You are an experienced procurement professional with a strong track record in category management, ideally within government or commercial sectors. You have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, collaborating effectively to deliver procurement outcomes that support frontline service delivery.
You bring a strong analytical mindset, using data and insights to guide sourcing strategies, optimise value and manage risk. You have experience leading or providing oversight to procurement teams, implementing category strategies, and tracking performance through KPIs and reporting.
Tertiary qualifications in a related field are required, with CIPS certification desirable. Previous experience in government fleet procurement, project management, or structured procurement frameworks (e.g., Agile, PRINCE2) is highly regarded. You are proactive, innovative and committed to continuous improvement in procurement practices.
