The NSW Department of Education is seeking an experienced Manager, Statutory Planning to provide expert statutory planning and environmental assessment services and guidance to facilitate the development, delivery, and implementation of planning and asset management initiatives for NSW schools within the delegated geography, in accordance with NSW planning legislation.

About you
- You have demonstrated experience in statutory planning, development assessment, environmental impact assessment, and managing complex education or asset-related proposals within NSW.
- Possess strong knowledge of NSW planning legislation, state and local planning policies, and planning and environmental assessment processes.
- Excellent communicator with proven writing, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills; you can influence diverse groups to achieve timely, practical outcomes.
- Experience coordinating with project directors, government stakeholders, and external specialists; you can manage scoping and quality assurance of planning and environmental assessment documentation (Reviews of Environmental Factors, Statements of Environmental Effects, Environmental Impact Statements).
- Excel at research, analysis, and delivering evidence-based options, strategies, reports, and briefings on planning policies affecting education and asset proposals.
- You can perform due diligence, provide planning information services, and contribute to departmental and interagency committees.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of delivering high standards of customer service while meeting performance targets.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning and/or relevant experience in managing a portfolio of planning projects governed by statutory instruments (such as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and other relevant legislation) as they affect land use and property/ development including licences, subdivision, rezoning and construction.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
