About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cylindrical & Surface Grinder to join our growing machining team in Moorabbin. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in producing high-precision components, working to tight tolerances, and delivering quality workmanship in a modern manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for the setup and operation of cylindrical and surface grinding machines, producing precision components that meet exacting customer and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate cylindrical and surface grinding machines.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, job sheets, and specifications.
Grind components to precise tolerances and surface finish requirements.
Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and gauges.
Select, dress, and maintain grinding wheels to suit various materials and applications.
Identify and troubleshoot machining and quality issues.
Complete production and quality documentation as required.
Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organised workspace.
Work collaboratively with machinists, programmers, supervisors, and quality personnel.
Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a strong safety culture.
Skills and Experiences:
Required skills, experience and qualifications:
Proven experience operating cylindrical and/or surface grinding machines.
Strong understanding of precision machining and grinding principles.
Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Experience using precision measuring instruments.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Forklift and overhead crane experience (desirable but not essential).
Trade qualification in Engineering, Machining, or equivalent industry experience preferred.
