Metal Master Roofing & Cladding Supplies Pty Ltd is a premier Australian-owned specialist manufacturer of custom sheet metal roofing, cladding, and architectural metal components. We excel in advanced metal fabrication, utilising fully integrated, state-of-the-art CNC fiber laser cutting technology, CNC press brakes, and automated material handling systems to process heavy and thin-gauge materials at scale.
We are seeking a degree-qualified Mechatronics Engineer to take ownership of our automated sheet metal manufacturing systems. You will provide the critical interdisciplinary capability required to optimise and maintain our factory-wide automation, ensuring our advanced laser cutters and press brakes operate at peak efficiency. This role spans mechanical design, electronic control systems, and software engineering tailored to precision metal fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer integrated systems specifically for high-volume sheet metal fabrication, developing detailed 3D CAD models (SolidWorks) for complex assemblies and flat-pattern development.
- Optimize CNC cutting programs and G-code sequences to minimize material waste on our advanced fiber laser operations.
- Design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems (Siemens/Allen-Bradley) tailored for the automated handling of raw metal sheets and structural components.
- Integrate sensors (proximity, vision, laser displacement) and actuators into closed-loop architectures to ensure precision folding and cutting.
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to conduct root cause analysis of manufacturing defects specific to metal fabrication, such as tolerance drift or warping.
- Provide engineering sign-off on safety-critical modifications and maintain strict compliance with AS 4024 (Machinery Safety) and AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules).
Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related electromechanical discipline.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and PLC programming (ladder logic/structured text).
- In-depth knowledge of Australian Standards relevant to machinery (AS 4024) and electrical (AS/NZS 3000).
- Proficiency aligned with Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competency standards.
