We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Tour Guide to join our team and assist in delivering engaging and educational tourism experiences on Sydney Harbour.
About the Role
The Tour Guide/ Tour Commentator is responsible for conducting guided tours and delivering informative commentary to visitors on Sydney Harbour sightseeing and whale watching cruises. The role involves providing information on places of interest, local history, marine wildlife, environmental conservation and cultural attractions while ensuring a high standard of customer service and visitor satisfaction.
The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, confidence speaking to groups of varying sizes, and a passion for tourism, education and visitor engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct guided tours and provide engaging commentary on Sydney Harbour, local landmarks, history, culture and marine wildlife.
- Deliver educational presentations and interpretive information relating to humpback whales, marine ecosystems, environmental conservation and Australian wildlife.
- Escort and assist visitors throughout tours and tourism activities.
- Provide visitors with information regarding places of interest, local attractions, facilities, tour itineraries and tourism services.
- Answer visitor questions and provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding destinations, attractions, wildlife and local history.
- Adapt tour presentations and commentary to suit different audiences, including domestic and international visitors.
- Research, develop and maintain current knowledge of Sydney Harbour attractions, marine wildlife, tourism products and visitor information.
- Conduct passenger safety briefings and provide information regarding safety procedures and vessel facilities.
- Assist passengers during boarding and disembarkation to ensure a safe and enjoyable visitor experience.
- Monitor visitor satisfaction and respond professionally to customer enquiries, feedback and requests for assistance.
- Assist passengers requiring additional support, including families, elderly passengers and visitors experiencing motion sickness.
- Promote responsible tourism practices and environmental awareness.
- Work collaboratively with vessel crew to ensure tours operate safely and efficiently.
- Provide general operational assistance on board the vessel to support passenger comfort, safety and the delivery of tourism experiences.
- Maintain high standards of customer service, presentation and professionalism at all times.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Previous experience in tourism, visitor services, hospitality, cruise operations, wildlife tourism or guided tours.
- Strong public speaking, presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to engage and interact with groups of varying sizes and cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong knowledge of Australian wildlife, marine environments, tourism attractions or local history is highly desirable.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in changing operational and weather conditions.
- Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification is desirable.
- Ability to work weekends, public holidays and seasonal tourism periods.

Pay: $76,600.00 – $78,000.00 per year
