Fomo Cinemas is an independent cinema and hospitality venue in Brunswick East, combining movies, events and in-seat food and beverage service.
We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and work alongside our Head Chef.
About the Role
As Sous Chef, you'll be the second-in-command of the kitchen, supporting the Head Chef with daily operations while being confident running the kitchen independently when required.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone looking for a stable, full-time position with responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to how the kitchen operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Run kitchen service in the Head Chef's absence.
- Coordinate preparation, mise en place and service.
- Maintain food quality, presentation and portion standards.
- Supervise and support cooks and kitchen hands.
- Assist with ordering, stocktakes, deliveries and stock control.
- Monitor food waste and portion control.
- Maintain food safety, hygiene and allergen standards.
- Support private events, functions and group bookings.
- Work collaboratively with Front of House and Management.
- Support improvements to kitchen workflow and efficiency.
About You
You'll be an experienced chef who is organised, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility for a kitchen.
You'll ideally have:
- 3+ years' experience in a commercial kitchen.
- Previous Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, Senior Cook or supervisory experience.
- Confidence running a kitchen and leading service independently.
- Strong cooking, preparation and organisational skills.
- Experience supervising and training kitchen staff.
- Good understanding of food safety, stock control and waste management.
- A valid Food Handler Certificate.
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience.
- Food Safety Supervisor certification is advantageous.
- Availability across evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who communicates well, takes ownership and works collaboratively with both Kitchen and Front of House teams.
