Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, document and evaluate an engaging, child-centred educational program in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) V2.0.
- Observe and assess children's learning, development, interests, strengths and individual needs.
- Use observations and assessments to plan intentional and meaningful learning experiences.
- Provide a safe, inclusive, stimulating and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Build warm, respectful and responsive relationships with children and families.
- Support children's wellbeing, confidence, independence, agency and sense of belonging.
- Extend children's learning through intentional teaching, play-based learning, conversations, questioning and meaningful interactions.
- Ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are respectfully incorporated into curriculum and practice.
- Support inclusion and make reasonable adjustments for children with additional needs or disability.
- Work collaboratively with educators to ensure consistency in curriculum, routines and children's experiences.
- Mentor, guide and support educators in relation to curriculum planning and pedagogical practice.
- Participate in the planning, assessment and critical reflection cycle.
- Maintain accurate educational documentation and records.
- Communicate professionally with families about children's learning and development.
- Develop positive relationships with families, schools, community organisations and relevant professionals.
- Follow the National Quality Framework (NQF), National Quality Standard (NQS), National Regulations, service policies and procedures.
- Promote child safety, wellbeing and protection at all times.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development and continuous improvement activities.
- Contribute to the service's Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and continuous improvement processes.
These responsibilities align with ACECQA's description of ECT work, including educational program planning, supporting children's wellbeing and development, pedagogical leadership, mentoring educators and building relationships with families and communities.
Essential Requirements
- Approved Early Childhood Teaching qualification recognised by ACECQA.
- Current NSW teacher accreditation/registration requirements applicable to the position. In NSW, ECTs working in approved centre-based settings must be accredited with NESA.
- Current Working With Children Check.
- Knowledge of the EYLF V2.0, NQF and NQS.
- Understanding of child protection, health and safety and inclusive practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an early childhood team.
The educational program should be based on an approved learning framework and respond to children's individual developmental needs, interests, experiences and strengths.
