Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a specialised tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital, providing complex medical, surgical, major trauma for numerous specialties.
We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.
Other regional hospitals part of the HNELHD Network are Belmont, Maitland, Tamworth and Manning Hospital. Other peripheral sites on rotation are Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour
What you'll be doing
Rehabilitation Medicine Trainees provide high quality Rehabilitation services and provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.
Working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants, The Trainee will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of progressing through the training program.
Trainees undertaking the care of Rehabilitation patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:
- Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plan
- Discuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carers
- Document the progress of patients in multiple settings
- Prescribe medications tailored to patients’ needs and conditions
- Transfer care of patients
- Choose, organise and interpret investigations
- Assess and manage acutely unwell patients
Plan, prepare for, perform, and provide after care for important procedures.
