Primary objective
To prepare the communities of the Northern Territory for the impact of hazards such as storms, floods, cyclones and tsunami
through the development, support and maintenance of the NT Emergency Service (NTES) community engagement and
awareness programs, displays and publications.
Key duties and responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of community engagement strategies.
- Design, develop and deliver NT hazard specific public education programs, displays and public briefings in culturally and
audience sensitive contexts, including schools, and aboriginal communities.
- Support and maintain NTES volunteer units to deliver local community education and engagement programs.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and evaluate effectiveness of community engagement initiatives.
- Work with stakeholders to develop, maintain and deliver school-based education programs to more appropriately reflect
current learning outcomes and coordinate delivery of programs.
- Undertake operational duties, as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and coordinate public engagement activities and programs tailored to diverse
audiences.
2. Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, supported by strong written and verbal communication skills.
3. Effective interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with a proven ability to communicate and negotiate with a
wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, and to successfully manage a wide network of relationships.
4. Proven ability to communicate confidently with large and diverse audiences, including the ability to adapt messaging to
suit audience needs.
5. Demonstrated competence in the use of Microsoft Office applications, with a working knowledge of government
systems, records management systems and databases, and familiarity with web-based technologies, or an ability to
quickly acquire this knowledge.
6. Current open Northern Territory driver licence.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV Training and Education (TAE) or similar.
2. Qualifications in marketing, project management, communications or public relations.
3. Knowledge and understanding of working in a volunteer environment.
