Berendsen Fluid Power has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team based at our Maryland, Newcastle NSW branch.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer who is a few years out of university (around 3+ years’ experience) and ready to take the next step in their career. You will work closely alongside highly experienced senior engineers, with more than 20 years’ industry experience, gaining exposure to complex hydraulic component and cylinder design in a supportive, hands-on environment.
As part of the engineering team, you will apply your mechanical engineering knowledge to the design and drafting of hydraulic components, ensuring high-quality 2D and 3D drawings are delivered to relevant standards and customer specifications as well as assist with other projects.
Key responsibilities
- Design and draft hydraulic components and cylinders, including preparation of detailed 3D models and engineering drawings
- Develop designs that are standardised, practical, and efficient to manufacture
- Perform engineering calculations to ensure designs are fit for purpose
- Prepare drawings and supporting documentation for customer review and approval
- Configure and customise designs to meet specific customer and project requirements
- Support manufacturing through the preparation of production documentation and assisting with technical queries on the workshop floor
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers to review, refine, and improve designs

About you
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent – mechanical pathway)
- Around 3+ years’ experience in a design or drafting role within an engineering environment
- Demonstrated experience drafting hydraulic components and/or cylinders
- Strong 3D modelling and drafting capability
- Sound understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles
- A proactive approach to learning, with the confidence to ask questions and seek guidance
