Structural Frame Installer / Steel Erector Position Summary
The Structural Frame Installer is responsible for the accurate installation and assembly of structural framing systems in accordance with engineering drawings, project specifications, and relevant Australian Standards. The role requires a strong understanding of construction drawings, precise set out techniques, and the ability to interpret and execute structural bracing requirements while maintaining high standards of safety and workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and work from architectural, structural, and shop drawings.
- Accurately set out wall frames, roof frames, and structural components to project specifications.
- Verify dimensions, levels, and alignment prior to installation.
- Interpret engineering details and construction documentation to ensure correct installation.
- Install structural framing systems in accordance with approved drawings and manufacturer specifications.
- Interpret and execute temporary and permanent bracing details, ensuring structural stability throughout construction.
- Install bracing components, tie-downs, hold-downs, and associated structural connections as detailed on engineering plans.
- Identify and report discrepancies or conflicts in drawings before installation.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to resolve construction issues.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Maintain compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure all work meets quality standards, building codes, and project specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
- Strong knowledge of frame set out procedures and construction techniques.
- Experience interpreting engineering plans and structural bracing requirements.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Sound understanding of Australian building practices and relevant standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification in Carpentry, Steel Framing, or a related construction trade (preferred).
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Current driver's licence (preferred).
- Relevant licences or tickets for elevated work platforms, forklifts, or rigging (where applicable).

Pay: $45.00 – $55.00 per hour
