About Central Gippsland Health
Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is a sub-regional health service and the major provider of health and aged care services in the Wellington Shire.
CGH is located in the City of Sale which is 215 km east of Melbourne. The City of Sale is an ideal access point for the magnificent Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach and the Victorian Alps.
CGH provides acute care as part of an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. The service provides beds across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield).
Acute services include a full-time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.
CGH also provides aged care and community services in the Wellington Shire and beyond.
We operate four residential aged care homes located in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield delivering high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments.
CGH provides a wide range of community-based services that support people to remain healthy, active, and independent in their own homes. This includes the provision of Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs, and other in-home services tailored to individual needs.
Our integrated model of care is supported by a multidisciplinary allied health team offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and social work. We also provide accessible public dental services to enhance community wellbeing.
CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.

About the Department
The Finance Department provides comprehensive financial management, accounting and reporting services across Central Gippsland Health (CGH), supporting the organisation's strategic, operational and governance objectives. The team delivers a broad range of finance functions including financial accounting, management accounting, budget management, statutory reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and audit support.
Working closely with managers and stakeholders across the organisation, the Finance Department plays a critical role in ensuring sound financial knowledge, informed decision-making and compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements. As part of the Corporate Services Division, the team is committed to delivering professional, customer-focused services that support high-quality healthcare delivery across the Sale, Maffra, Stretton Park and Heyfield campuses.
For a graduate accountant, this role provides exposure to a diverse range of financial activities within a complex healthcare environment, offering excellent opportunities to develop practical accounting skills while working alongside experienced finance professionals.
About the Role
The Graduate Accountant is responsible for providing comprehensive financial support across Central Gippsland Health, working collaboratively with the Finance Team to deliver accurate, timely and customer-focused financial services. The role provides an excellent opportunity for an emerging finance professional to develop practical accounting skills across management accounting, financial reporting, taxation, audits, asset management and financial governance within a complex healthcare environment.
Duties
- Prepare financial journals, reconciliations and month-end reporting schedules.
- Assist with financial reporting for Central Gippsland Health, Heyfield Hospital and Stretton Park.
- Support the preparation of BAS, Fringe Benefits Tax and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Participate in end-of-month and end-of-year accounting processes and audit activities.
- Assist with maintaining supplier records, financial delegations, asset registers and lease information.
- Provide support to the Finance Partner Program and assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to support sound financial management and decision-making.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Studying towards an Accounting or Business Degree, or hold a minimum Certificate IV in Accounting/Bookkeeping with equivalent practical accounting experience.
- Demonstrated interest in developing a career in financial accounting, management accounting or healthcare finance.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Well-developed communication and customer service skills with the ability to build effective relationships across the organisation.
- Experience with Oracle FMIS and MagiQ Performance would be highly regarded.
