About the Role
This is a 3-Year Fixed Term Opportunity
Job Location: 525 Collins Street, Melbourne
The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads the delivery of key mechanical systems for the X’Trapolis 2.0 train project, including design, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and safety assurance activities. The role provides specialist engineering advice, manages technical and safety risks, and ensures systems meet required standards and project objectives. Working closely with contractors, operators, project teams, and stakeholders, the role also mentors junior engineers and supports technical decision-making. Success in this position helps deliver a safe, reliable, and high-performing train fleet that meets customer, operational, and value-for-money outcomes for Victoria.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
-
A mechanical engineering degree qualification (or equivalent). (Mandatory)

Experience in the procurement, design, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, acceptance and general engineering project management tasks relating to rolling stock will be well regarded. (Desirable)

Membership with Engineers Australia with Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status would be highly regarded. (Desirable)

Postgraduate qualification in a field of relevance to engineering or rolling stock or vehicle projects would be highly regarded. (Desirable)
