About the Role:
As the Principal Advisor - Student Support & Engagement, you will focus on building the capability of schools to create safe, inclusive and sustainable learning environments for students whose behaviours present complexity, challenge or risk.
The role provides high-level strategic leadership and specialist advice to principals and school leadership teams in collaboration with regional staff to:
Support MTSS processes with school staff in their local context;
Apply evidence-based approaches to reduce restrictive practices, and;
Improve student engagement improve participation and learning outcomes for students.
Responsibilities Include:
Working across Metro North Region, you will:
Build the capability of school and regional staff in evidence-based practice, including Positive Behaviour Support, trauma-informed approaches, functional understanding of behaviour, and effective engagement strategies.
Partner with principals and leadership teams to review whole-school systems, culture, processes and practices that influence student behaviour, engagement and inclusion
Provide expert advice regarding students with highly complex behavioural, disability and engagement needs.
coach school teams to undertake functional and practical behaviour assessment, develop high-quality Individual Behaviour Support Plans and Student Safety Plans, and implement sustainable adjustments that reduce risk and increase participation
Support schools following significant behavioural incidents through collaborative review, reflection and systems improvement, ensuring learning from incidents translates into strengthened preventative practice
Provide strategic advice regarding departmental policy and procedures relating to restrictive practices, behaviour support, disability inclusion, human rights, duty of care and student safety
Work collaboratively with families, caregivers and external agencies to strengthen partnerships that improve outcomes for students with complex support needs
Contribute to regional and statewide capability development through professional learning, coaching, mentoring and communities of practice
Identify emerging regional trends, analyse behavioural and engagement data, and provide advice to senior regional leaders to inform strategic planning and service delivery.
While performing this role, you will build strong collaborative relationships with regional, school and statewide colleagues to manage a dynamic and multifaceted workload. You will demonstrate outstanding initiative, sound professional judgement, excellent organisation and the ability to influence others through coaching, mentoring and consultative practice.
Regular travel across Metro North Region will be required.
