The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Supervisor, Workforce Services to provide a critical role within the Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct.
About the Business Unit
The Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct incorporates four custodial facilities located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The four custodial facilities consist of two maximum security prisons being HM Prison Barwon and Western Plains Correctional Centre and medium security prison Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex. The BSW Prison Services Team provides both operational and administrative services to HMP Barwon, Marngoneet Correctional Centre and the Karreenga Annex.
The Workforce Services Team is committed to providing a high level of service to the locations within the BSW precinct. The focus of our service is split into four streams; Workforce analysis and insights, Recruitment, Rostering and Workforce Development and Training.
About the Role
The Supervisor, Workforce Services is uniquely placed to undertake strategic planning to oversee the successful training of new recruit squads. Ensuring provision of leadership, mentorship and coaching to squad leaders, squad managers and facilitators.
The role also supports other aspects of the Workforce Services Team; undertaking planning works supporting the Workforce Development Team to deliver mandatory training in a cost-effective manner and increasing opportunities for staff to participate in appropriate and relevant developmental training.
The role will also support the Manager, Workforce Services with strategic planning, reporting and compliance in the four streams within the Workforce Services Team. Preparation of high-level briefing and reports relating to various Prison Services functions will also be expected of this role. The Supervisor, Workforce Services is also responsible for the leadership and supervision of the squad leaders and managers.
Travel between prison locations and squad locations will be required.
Some of your duties will include:
- Manage, plan and coordinate a wide variety of training and professional development requirements for the locations to ensure mandatory qualifications are maintained in accordance with operational requirements
- Scope, plan and manage projects, liaising with key stakeholders, anticipating and addressing issues, and negotiating key elements to ensure supportive innovative service improvements and delivery of corporate services.
- Manage orientation and induction programs, staff competency training and evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of these training programs.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Sound understanding of the Victorian Corrections operating system
- Knowledge of custodial squad training and functions will be highly regarded
- Knowledge and experience in Time Target systems and processing will be advantageous
- Knowledge and experience in the departments Learning Management System will be advantageous
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of competency-based training and assessment, including the ability to plan, manage and implement training solutions.
Qualifications/requirements
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or a relevant qualification is desirable.
