Position: Disability Male Support Worker – Balaclava VIC
Start Date: Immediate
We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and dependable male support worker to provide community participation and support to an adult male participant who uses a wheelchair. This role would suit someone who is caring, respectful, and committed to helping participants maintain their independence and participate actively in the community.
Role Overview
Availability Required:
Monday to Sunday
Flexible shift availability – approximately 25 hours per week
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in disability support, community participation, or community access.
- A caring, respectful, and person-centred approach, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Strong communication, companionship, and interpersonal skills.
- A valid Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Flexibility to work across different days and shift times as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide community participation support while maintaining the participant’s dignity, comfort, choice, and independence at all times.
- Support the participant to attend community activities, social events, recreational activities, shopping, café visits, and appointments.
- Encourage active community involvement and support the participant in developing greater independence.
- Provide companionship, meaningful engagement, and opportunities for social interaction.
- Assist with daily living activities as required.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, respectful, and positive environment.
- Respond appropriately to the participant’s changing needs with patience, empathy, and flexibility.
Participant Preferences
The participant enjoys community outings, coffee, shopping, beach visits, recreational activities, and social interaction. The ideal support worker will be friendly, patient, respectful, and able to provide gentle support while encouraging the participant's independence and choices.
