As housing affordability continues to be a significant challenge across Melbourne, we are seeking an experienced professional to lead Council’s affordable housing initiatives and help deliver positive outcomes for current and future residents.
About the role
The Principal Affordable Housing Officer will establish Council’s affordable housing program, from policy development through to project inception. Working within the City Futures department, you will provide expert advice, build knowledge among executives and councillors, develop policy, and strengthen organisational capacity. This will involve building effective partnerships and identifying opportunities to increase affordable housing across the municipality.
You will work collaboratively across Council, with government agencies, community housing providers, developers and other key stakeholders to support innovative and evidence-based solutions to housing affordability challenges.
About you
You bring experience in affordable housing, urban planning, strategic policy, community development or a related field. You have highly developed communication skills, supported by strong policy and problem-solving capabilities.

Employment Requirements
- Qualifications in social policy, planning, architecture, property/development, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in affordable housing policy, research and project delivery.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
