Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Coordinator Plant and Fleet to join their team in Lithgow, NSW.
Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the management of al Council's plant and vehicles. This position will oversee the operations in the Lithgow Workshop in respect to the staff, equipment and looking to keep the operation of the workshop certified to current standards. The position will also be looking to gain efficiencies by improving technology and staff training. Working with the Transport Manager to update procedures and policies while reporting back on the progress of budget expenditure and plant replacement throughout the year. This position will be responsible for the procurement of plant and vehicles while looking to improve efficiencies of each item.
You will be required to be on-call on a roster arrangement and will be eligible for the associated on-call allowance.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Developing and managing a plant and fleet acquisition and replacement strategy.
- Develop and implement a robust preventative maintenance works program that ensures planned maintenance and repairs are delivered in accordance with agreed service levels, and that plant and fleet utilisation and availability is maximised.
- Report, monitor and make appropriate recommendations to ensure that agreed service levels are achieved.
- Assisting in the development of and implementation of technical specifications, procedures and policies to ensure the effective and efficient delivery and operation of plant and fleet services.
- Preparation of fleet reporting, including audits, infringements, changes, insurance claims, fuel usage and discrepancies, registration.
- Monitoring for effective utilisation of Council’s owned and hired fleet, and reporting on opportunities for improvement as required.
- Provide leadership, development and support for the Workshop team.
- Determine priorities and scheduling for plant and fleet maintenance based on internal customer service requirements.
- Effectively manage plant and fleet budget.
- Effectively communicate with contractors, public authorities and suppliers to negotiate the best possible arrangements for Council.
- Ensure the acquisition and disposal of all plant and fleet is in accordance with Council’s Fleet Management Policy.
- Identify and coordinate plant and fleet procedures and practices that will improve and enhance Council’s assets.
- Management and control of Lithgow Depot.
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- Current Motor Vehicle Trades Certificate
- Class HR Drivers Licence (or willing to obtain within 3 months)
- Demonstrated knowledge of fleet management
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to safely drive a range of plant and vehicles including those requiring an endorsed licence.
- Ability to plan work schedules, prioritise work and complete tasks on schedule.
- Demonstrated experience in keeping accurate records of maintenance and upkeep of Council plant, fleet and equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in budget estimating and control
- Demonstrated experience in the effective and efficient management of staff
- Demonstrated commitment to the principals of honesty and integrity
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Work Health and Safety
In addition, an ideal candidate would have Certificate IV in Business, Business Administration, or a related discipline, WHS Induction for Construction Ticket (Whitecard) and previous experience in Local Government.
