In this role, you'll:
Join the Transport Policy team as a Strategic Policy Lead covering multi-modal freight (rail, ports and roads) and rail passenger policy in the Safety, Policy, Environment and Regulation division at Transport for New South Wales.
The teams works on delivering NSW Government priorities and the Connecting NSW Strategy via legislative, regulatory and strategic reform and policy.
You will lead the development of evidence-based policy, research complex issues, prepare clear advice, and drive legislative initiatives in partnership with internal teams, government agencies, and industry stakeholders. Core to the role are work with subject matter experts, internal and external stakeholders to develop practical policy solutions that inform government decision making, present a clear advice and contribute to improved outcomes for customers and communities in a fast-paced and complex policy environment.
This is a Grade 9 fixed-term contract until May 2028. TfNSW’s standard flexible working arrangement is 50% in-office attendance at any TfNSW office and a minimum of five days a month at the team’s office base at 231 Elizabeth Street office in Sydney’s CBD, with an alternative arrangement potentially available. Senior leadership in the Freight and Rail Policy Team principally attends 231 Elizabeth Street Tuesdays through Thursdays.

About you
You are a passionate and dedicated professional with demonstrated skills and success in:
- Policy experience: Proven experience in policy development and regulatory reform, including sound knowledge of government processes and strategic approaches to delivering within government frameworks.
- Responsive and substantiated advice Ability to develop effective, timely and quality analysis and responses to complex policy challenges involving multiple stakeholders, inside and outside government.
- Flexible problem-solver A fast learner with agility to work across breadth of policy subjects and issues, who applies strategic thinking to complex issues, often at short notice and under pressure. Options for issue resolution are clearly presented, evidenced-informed and consulted subject matter experts or key stakeholders
- Robust stakeholder engagement skills to nurture relationships to effective navigate competing interests of private, public and government stakeholders to deliver on NSW Government policy outcomes
- Develop and motivate a team with a clear focus on the delivery of outcomes and continued development of capabilities across the branch
