About the roleTechnical Sales Trainee – Industrial Power Transmission & Mechanical Engineering
Our South Australian family business is seeking a trainee technical sales representative to grow our industrial power transmission sales. The successful candidate will be trained in such industrial components as roller chain, sprockets, pulleys, conveyor systems, drives and much more. The role is focused on selling the company’s range of electrical and mechanical engineering products to customers.
The successful candidate will be trained to:
- Manage day-to-day sales calls from established customers
- Identify and secure new business opportunities within manufacturing, mining and heavy industry.
- Provide technical consultation to clients regarding mechanical power transmission systems.
- Translate customer requirements into precise engineering product specifications.
- Manage sales pipelines from initial technical inquiry through to final sale.
Skills and qualifications
- Technical expertise: Background in power transmission mechanical engineering principles and power transmission components (roller chain, sprockets, pulleys gears, belts, bearings, couplings, drives etc) would be an advantage. The trainee will be given the opportunity to learn about each component.
- Drive to sell: The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is committed to improving company sales and working within a small team.
- Problem solving: With training, the applicant will be expected to develop the ability to diagnose mechanical issues and recommend component solutions.
- Communication: Equipped with excellent communication skills and ability to assist customers with technical and non-technical customers.
- Team work: Ability to work within a small team and adapt as needed.
- Work ethic: Strong work ethic with ability to manage time effectively.

What we're looking for
- A trainee with a strong work ethic who is driven to make sales
- The successful candidate will possess a willingness to learn and build knowledge in electrical and mechanical engineering products or industrial services industry
- Any technical knowledge of electrical products, systems and applications would be an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with clients
- Self-driven to achieve sales targets as well as an ability to work independently and as part of a sales team
- Passion for staying up-to-date with industry trends and innovations
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel within the Adelaide metropolitan area as required
