About the Role:
The MJD Foundation is seeking an experienced and passionate Physiotherapist to join its dedicated Therapy Program in Darwin.
This is a unique opportunity to provide specialist physiotherapy and multidisciplinary allied health support to people living with Machado-Joseph Disease (MJD) and related conditions across the Northern Territory.
You will work closely with clients, families, Aboriginal Community Workers and cultural advisors to deliver strengths-based, evidence-informed and culturally responsive care that supports people to achieve their goals and stay stronger for longer.
The role also provides opportunities to contribute to education, research and resource development, as well as occasional clinics supporting people living with MJD and SCA7 in Far North Queensland.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individual and group physiotherapy assessments and therapeutic programs
Work collaboratively with clients, families, Aboriginal Community Workers and the multidisciplinary team
Provide NDIS clinical justification for equipment and supports where required
Support NDIS plan development and delivery
Build strong and enduring relationships with clients and their families
Contribute to research, education, training and resource development
Support continuous improvement of clinical services and health outcomes
Travel to remote communities by light aircraft and 4WD as required
About You:
You will be an experienced Physiotherapist who is passionate about neurological rehabilitation, person-centred care and working collaboratively with Aboriginal communities.
You will have:
Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy and current AHPRA registration
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a qualified therapist
Experience working with neurological conditions and/or in rehabilitation settings
Strong clinical reasoning and professional judgement
An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and cultures
A commitment to person and family-centred practice
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Desirable:
Postgraduate training in neurological rehabilitation
Knowledge of Machado-Joseph Disease and other ataxias
Experience working within the NDIS
Knowledge of NT Government and/or NGO services
What You Need:
Ability to obtain and maintain an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain an NT Class C manual driver’s licence
Willingness to travel to remote communities
Sound physical fitness and personal resilience
Willingness to comply with Government vaccination requirements
