About the role
Based in Macquarie Park and reporting to the Manager – Engineering Delivery, the Senior Design Manager leads the scope, program, budget and commercial management of engineering activities across Enerven's works program, including our highest-risk projects valued at over $100M. You'll provide the technical leadership and specialised engineering expertise behind Enerven's substation, BESS and renewables delivery. You'll be a visible leader engaging confidently at executive level to articulate our value proposition, navigate risk and move quickly on emerging opportunities through early contractor involvement and engineering-led solutions.
Day to day you will:
- Lead the technical and engineering delivery of substation, BESS and renewable projects from design through to commissioning
- Own the requirements, scope, program, budget and commercial performance of engineering activities, protecting margin and managing risk on large projects
- Act as the key client contact for design activities, building and owning that relationship
- Coordinate engineering delivery across projects — solving problems and managing interfaces between teams and contractors
- Define scope and engage design contractors in line with Technical Authority procedures, reviewing complex studies, specifications and drawings.
- Facilitate, lead and drive safety in design requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentor and develop the engineering and design teams, providing direction and building capability
About you
This role is suited to an experienced engineer who has progressed beyond technical delivery and now also works on shaping projects commercially, leading capable teams and influencing decisions at a senior level. You will bring substantial expertise across multiple disciplines within substation, BESS or renewables engineering, with strengths in electrical engineering systems, complemented by the commercial acumen developed through an EPC or contracting background.
- 10 years' cross-discipline substation, BESS or renewables engineering experience, with depth in multi-discipline engineering activities.
- 5 years managing schedule, cost and client relationships in an EPC or contracting environment
- Specialised knowledge of distribution and transmission systems, substation equipment selection, power system modelling and relay settings
- Working knowledge of civil and structural components of substations and network assets
- Advanced technical leadership and communication skills, including engagement at executive level
