Lead the future of sustainable waste and resource recovery in the Gympie Region

Gympie Regional Council is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Coordinator Resource Recovery to lead the delivery of Council's waste and resource recovery services. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the region's approach to sustainable waste management while leading a dedicated team and driving continuous improvement across our operations.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, government agencies and industry partners, you will ensure Council's resource recovery services are safe, compliant, efficient and responsive to the needs of our growing community.
About the Role
As Coordinator Resource Recovery, you will:
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of waste management professionals delivering high-quality resource recovery services.
- Oversee Council's commercial and domestic waste management operations, including kerbside waste, recycling, green waste services, landfills and waste transfer stations.
- Ensure all resource recovery operations comply with relevant environmental legislation, licensing requirements and industry best practice.
- Develop and deliver projects, policies and initiatives that support the objectives of Council's Waste Management Strategy and enhance sustainable resource recovery outcomes.
- Provide specialist technical advice to Council on resource recovery, waste management and environmental compliance matters.
- Promote community education initiatives that encourage waste minimisation, recycling and sustainable resource recovery practices.
- Contribute to the planning and development of long-term waste disposal and resource recovery solutions for the Gympie Region.
- Manage operational budgets, monitor project delivery and ensure works are completed safely, on time and within budget.
- Build productive relationships with government agencies, contractors, industry representatives and other key stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement across Council's resource recovery operations and undertake other duties relevant to the role.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Engineering or a related discipline, and/or significant experience in waste management, environmental services or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary waste and resource recovery practices, environmental legislation and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing operational teams, with the ability to inspire high performance and foster a positive team culture.
- Extensive experience delivering waste management or environmental projects, ideally within local government or another complex operational environment.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence and resolve complex issues.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience developing strategies, policies and operational improvements.
- A strong commitment to customer service, safety and environmental stewardship.
- A current Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
- A current Construction Industry White Card (or the ability to obtain one).
