Tell me about this role:
As the Export Controls Specialist, you will be the subject matter expert for export control compliance within the project office. Working closely with asset managers, technical specialists, project teams and stakeholders, you will oversee the administration and management of export-controlled information and agreements, ensuring compliance with ITAR, Foreign Military Sales (FMS) arrangements, and other relevant export control requirements.
You will provide expert advice on export control matters, manage critical registers and reporting activities, conduct assurance activities, and help identify and mitigate compliance risks. This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment supporting important Defence capability outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of governance and compliance.

What will I be doing day to day?
- Maintain and manage Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs) and Third Party Retransfer (TPR) registers
- Coordinate reviews of export control agreements and documentation
- Proactively manage amendments to agreements in collaboration with Asset Managers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Maintain the register of Non-Disclosure Deeds and ensure templates remain current and compliant
- Review data sharing proposals to ensure compliance with export control and ITAR requirements
- Provide timely and accurate export controls advice to project office personnel and stakeholders
- Conduct internal assurance activities to identify potential compliance risks and recommend appropriate controls
- Support audits, reviews and compliance assessments as required
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of export control processes, procedures and governance frameworks
What sort of skills do I need?
- Demonstrated experience working with Export Controls, particularly ITAR and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) arrangements
- Strong understanding of export control compliance requirements within Defence, acquisition or sustainment environments
- Experience managing controlled agreements, registers and compliance documentation
- Ability to interpret legislation, policies and regulatory requirements and apply them in a practical environment
- Proven ability to provide clear and practical advice to a broad range of stakeholders
- Experience identifying compliance risks and implementing appropriate mitigation controls
- Eligibility to access US Export Controlled (ITAR) information
- Australian citizenship and a current NV1 Security Clearance
