About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging People Business Partner to join David Jones.
Reporting to the Head of Partnering, Omnichannel, you will work alongside leaders to deliver people initiatives, build leadership capability, support change and contribute to positive business outcomes.
This role is ideal for someone who is:
- Early in their Business Partnering career and looking to broaden their experience; or
- Ready to step up from a People Advisory role within a large organisation, where they have already gained exposure to elements of business partnering.
You will have the opportunity to strengthen your stakeholder engagement, influencing and coaching capability while gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of people matters. Supported by experienced People leaders and the broader teams, this is a fantastic next step for someone who is curious, commercially minded and ready to grow.
What you’ll do
- Partner with leaders to deliver the people strategy and support business priorities
- Provide practical people advice, coaching and guidance to leaders
- Help build leadership capability and confidence across the business
- Support conversations relating to talent, succession, engagement and performance
- Contribute to organisational change and transformation initiatives
- Collaborate with People Centres of Excellence to deliver effective people solutions
- Build trusted stakeholder relationships and influence positive outcomes
- Balance commercial priorities with the needs of our people and teams
What we’re looking for
You may already be working as a People or HR Business Partner, or you may be an experienced People Advisor who has touched on elements of partnering in their role and is ready to take the next step in your career.
You will be a proactive go-getter who is comfortable taking initiative, working through ambiguity and finding practical solutions. You bring a genuine can-do attitude, strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to lean into new challenges rather than wait for all the answers.
Importantly, you will have strong learning agility. You are curious, open to feedback and able to quickly absorb new information, adapt your approach and apply what you have learned in different situations.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Experience in a People/HR Advisory, People Business Partnering or similar people-focused role
- Exposure to business partnering activities within a large or complex organisation
- A proactive mindset and willingness to take ownership and follow through
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach
- The learning agility to quickly understand new challenges and adapt in a changing environment
- Confidence building relationships and influencing stakeholders at different levels
- Strong communication, collaboration and coaching skills
- Curiosity, sound judgement, commercial awareness and a genuine passion for people
You do not need to have led every aspect of business partnering independently. What matters most is that you have strong advisory foundations, some exposure to partnering activities and the motivation, initiative and learning agility to take greater ownership.
Take the next step
If you are a proactive People professional who enjoys solving problems, embracing new challenges and making things happen, this could be the opportunity to take your career to the next level.
