Senior Compliance & Governance Accountant
Location: Parramatta - Hybrid
Employment type: Ongoing Full Time
Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10 ($129,464 - $142,665 pa), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
The role supports the Manager Compliance and Governance; overseeing the responsibility of compliance monitoring and reporting arising from Australian Accounting Standards, legislative pronouncements and Treasury directions.
What you’ll do
As part of the Financial Control team within Strategic Finance, you are responsible for but not limited to:
- Develop and maintain finance accounting policies, procedures, guidance materials, and deliver compliance training while ensuring adherence to legislative requirements.
- Conduct internal control and compliance reviews, lead annual CFO certification programs, manage evidence collection, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and audits.
- Maintain the audit management action register, partner with business units for process improvements, address management letter issues, and provide expert advice on accounting standards and financial policies.
- Collaborate with Central Agency Reporting, Operational Accounting teams, and finance partners, supporting continuous improvement in financial reporting, delegation mapping, system migrations, and ad-hoc projects.
You will also contribute to cross-functional projects, leveraging your expertise to facilitate successful outcomes across the organisation.
Essential requirements of the role
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business, Commerce or related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Professional accounting qualifications – CAANZ or CPAA or equivalent > 3 years
- Sound work experience/understanding of the financial risk management, governance and compliance
- Sound work experience/understanding of the NSW Public Sector including the related risk management policies and statutory/legislative requirements.
- Sound knowledge of Australian accounting standards and current and future pronouncements
- Over three years of audit experience at senior level is desirable.
