This isn’t your average job! As a Rock and Pop Instrumental Music Teacher (we call them ‘Band Leaders’), you will transform school halls into mini festival stages, leading primary-aged kids through weekly band lessons on real instruments. Our Band Leaders keep their evening gigs while building a meaningful, purpose-driven daytime career doing what they love most: making music.
If you've ever wanted a job that genuinely matters, this is it.
About Us
Rocksteady Music School is a leading global provider of in-school rock and pop band lessons. Operating in over 4500 schools and teaching over 125,000 children worldwide, we’ve now launched in NSW and looking to build a team locally to deliver our award-winning lessons.
Our model is designed to do more than teach instrumental skills. Through weekly band lessons, we help students build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and wellbeing. Join us as a band leader and your passion will inspire the next generation.
About the role
As a Rocksteady Band Leader, you’ll spend your days making real music on real instruments, watching students go from nervous first-timers to confident performers in just a few weeks. If you care about doing work that genuinely matters, helping children grow in confidence, teamwork and wellbeing, then this is the job for you. This is a role with real purpose, where your encouragement and energy can change a child’s week (and sometimes much more) through music.
You don’t need a traditional teaching background or a straight-line “music career” to thrive here. Our Band Leaders come from all walks of life - some are gigging musicians, some are self-taught, and some are returning to music after working in a different field. What matters most is that you can play, you care about our mission, and you’re excited to learn. Bring the musical foundation, the right attitude and a genuine drive to make a difference with kids, and we’ll give you the training, resources and support to grow into the role with confidence.
What You'll Be Doing
- Teaching groups of primary-age children in a rock and pop band format across in up to 10 schools per week
- Giving children their first opportunity to learn an instrument – you’ll be teaching drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals
- Working independently as part of a supportive remote team of Band Leaders
- Being a rock and pop role-model, empowering children in primary schools to deliver live performances at their end-of-term concerts
- Helping kids develop self-belief, resilience, and wellbeing through performing in a band
- Representing Rocksteady, building strong, trusting relationships with school staff, teachers, and parents
- Be prepared for highly active days and to spend time on the road driving between schools. You’ll need to load and unload your band equipment, set-up and pack away in each location.
What You'll Bring
- Competency on at least two of the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, and vocals
- The enthusiasm to learn how to teach band lessons and complete our extensive training programme before you start your timetable
- Resilience and energy for a role that’s full of greatest moments and biggest challenges – often all in the same day!
- The confidence to be yourself at work, be proud of your uniqueness and communicate equally well with children, teachers and parents
- The integrity to always promote the safety and well-being of children and young people.
- Strong time management and administration skills as an independent, organised worker
- A current Australian driver's licence and your own vehicle
Benefits
- Full-time permanent position, 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, daytime only
- 11+ weeks paid holiday per year
- Annual salary plus discretionary company bonus of up to $3,000
- Full training in our progressive teaching methodologies
- Enhanced parental leave
- Celebratory staff away-days, regular social events and Christmas celebrations
- Opportunities to work with the Rocksteady Foundation, reaching children and young people in charities and support groups across the Australia
