Stage 1 Trainee – Emergency Medicine, Northern Beaches Hospital

An exciting opportunity to join the team in the Emergency Department at the Northern Beaches Hospital.
The Trainee will assess and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department under supervision and will work towards meeting the requirements for Stage 1 training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM).
The Northern Beaches is a tier one training site allowing for 36 months of core training

Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs, extensive digital imaging / diagnostic facilities, medical centre collocated with ED, state of the art education and interactive SIM centre and a Helipad for Emergency Transport.
Emergency Trainees will have:
Paid protected weekly education session
Regular rostered non clinical days to obtain experience in ED administration
Resuscitation-focused training program including advanced airway management, critical care interventions including life-saving surgical procedures, focused cardiac ultrasound and paediatric resuscitation. In situ multidisciplinary simulation and human factors training.
Access to a roster governed by a transparent and equitable roster rules document, which ensures fair spread of shifts and includes principles such as quarantining leave around exams so as to maximally benefit trainees.
Access to a number of free CCPU accredited POCUS courses run in house on an annual basis
Work alongside a highly motivated group of FACEMs with vast experience in toxicology, education, trauma, Ultrasound sports medicine and pre hospital and retrieval medicine.
What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of Emergency patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the doctor's skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending
Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
