Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a specialised tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital, providing complex medical, surgical, major trauma for numerous specialties.
We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.
Other regional hospitals part of the HNELHD Network are Belmont, Maitland, Tamworth and Manning Hospital. Other peripheral sites on rotation are Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour
What you'll be doing
The purpose of the Senior Resident Medical Officer - Emergency Department / Acute Medicine Unit position is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment whilst encouraging professional development through structured rotations across Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine at John Hunter Hospital.

This is a full-time rotational position comprising 6 months in the Emergency Department and 6 months in the Acute Medicine Unit, or 6 months in the Acute Medicine Unit followed by 6 months in the Emergency Department.

The position is well suited to doctors who have completed the equivalent of Australian residency training, including PGY2 or above, or the UK Foundation Programme, and who are seeking broad-based acute care experience in a large tertiary hospital.

The SRMO is a key member of the multidisciplinary team who works closely with senior medical staff, nursing staff, allied health, patients and families, and who is required to deal with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature whilst exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
