Job Description: Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist
Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring all furniture products meet the company's quality standards, customer specifications and production requirements before dispatch. The role involves inspecting products throughout the manufacturing process, verifying accuracy against production documentation, identifying defects, maintaining quality records and working closely with production teams to ensure continuous improvement.
The Quality Assurance Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring customers receive products that meet the highest standards of workmanship, presentation and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Product Quality Inspection
- Inspect manufactured furniture to ensure products comply with customer specifications, approved CAD drawings and production documentation.
- Verify dimensions using appropriate measuring equipment including tape measures, rulers, callipers and gauges.
- Compare completed products against cutting lists, manufacturing documentation and work orders to ensure accuracy.
- Inspect finished goods for scratches, dents, chips, staining, uneven stitching, assembly faults and other cosmetic or manufacturing defects.
- Identify workmanship issues including incorrect materials, hardware or finishes.
Production Verification
- Confirm products have been manufactured to the correct dimensions, quantities and specifications.
- Ensure all furniture components, hardware kits and accessories are complete before dispatch.
- Verify labelling is accurate and products are allocated to the correct customer orders.
- Check shipment accuracy by ensuring all required items and documentation are included.
Packaging & Dispatch Quality
- Audit packaging quality to ensure furniture is adequately protected for transport.
- Verify protective wrapping and packaging methods minimise the risk of transit damage.
- Compile interstate transfer reports and confirm jobs are correctly allocated within the company's operating system.
- Mark completed jobs ready for dispatch within the company's computer system.
Quality Documentation
- Record inspection results accurately within company systems.
- Document defects, non-conformances and quality concerns.
- Prepare reports outlining quality issues, trends and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inspection records for traceability and compliance.
Inventory & Non-Conforming Product Management
- Isolate damaged or defective products from saleable stock.
- Coordinate rework, repair or disposal of non-conforming products.
- Monitor recurring quality issues and escalate concerns to management.
Communication & Collaboration
- Liaise with Production, Warehouse, Scheduling and Customer Service teams regarding production progress, order status and quality concerns.
- Communicate manufacturing delays, shortages and quality issues affecting customer orders.
- Work collaboratively with manufacturing staff to resolve quality problems promptly.
Continuous Improvement
- Assist in developing and improving quality assurance procedures and inspection standards.
- Update inspection checklists and quality protocols when new furniture models or manufacturing processes are introduced.
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing quality, efficiency and consistency.
- Participate in quality investigations and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
Training & Support
- Train and mentor production staff on quality standards, inspection requirements and correct manufacturing techniques.
- Promote a culture of quality throughout the manufacturing operation.
- Support new employees by providing guidance on inspection procedures and quality expectations.
Pay: $79,500.00 – $85,000.00 per year
