About the role
We are seeking a Community Sports Development Officer to help promote and increase participation in pickleball and physical activity within the community. The role develops and coordinates the delivery of pickleball programs, initiatives, and services and ensures inclusivity by engaging people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. By promoting participation, the role helps improve physical health, mental well-being, and social integration. The role partners with local communities, sports organisations, councils, and schools to introduce new players to the sport.
Key responsibilities
· Develop and implement initiatives to increase participation in pickleball, encourage repeat engagement, and facilitate progression into regular social play and membership programs.
· Analyse participation and booking patterns to identify opportunities to introduce additional pickleball and sporting programs, activities, and services during underutilised periods.
· Coordinate, direct and supervise practice sessions, school activities, group experiences, social play opportunities, coaching clinics, individual and team competitions and events.
· Build and maintain relationships with schools, councils and community organisations to develop partnerships to increase participation and identify funding and grant opportunities.
· Work with coaches and venue staff to ensure sporting activities and programs are appropriate for participants’ experience, abilities and skill levels.
· Promote pickleball participation opportunities through community outreach, partnerships, local campaigns, schools, events and other engagement activities.
· Develop and implement targeted initiatives to increase participation among women and girls, multicultural communities, young people, older adults and retirees.
· Monitor and evaluate on participation levels, program outcomes, participant retention, membership engagement and community development initiatives, and recommend strategies for improvement.
· Maintain accurate records relating to participant registrations, participation levels, sporting programs, competitions, incidents, stakeholder engagement and other sports development activities.
· Monitor court utilisation, participation, repeat visitation and membership trends to assess the effectiveness of sports development initiatives and identify opportunities to improve participation and program outcomes.
About you
You will ideally have:
· Relevant qualification at the level of a Bachelor’s Degree in sport development, sport management, business or higher, OR at least 2-3 years of relevant full-time work experience
· Experience in sports development, community sport participation program or related area.
· Experience supporting membership growth, customer retention or business-development activities.
· Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
· Strong organisational, planning, scheduling, administrative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple sporting programs and activities.
· Ability to monitor operational and participation results and prepare reports for management.
· Competency using booking systems, customer databases, spreadsheets and other business software.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy sporting environment.
· Availability to work evenings and weekends as required by sporting programs, competitions, events and community activities.
· A current Working with Children Check.
· A current First Aid and CPR qualification, or willingness to obtain these qualifications.
· Experience in pickleball, racquet sports or indoor sporting facilities is desirable but not essential.
Renumeration: AUD80,000 per annum plus super
Pay: Up to $80,000.00 per year
