About the role
We're looking for an experienced, Filipino-speaking female support worker to join a small, stable team providing 1:1 support to a participant in South Granville.
This is a hands-on personal care role with a settled daily rhythm. You'd be the person who starts the paticipant's day - morning routine, breakfast, exercises, then whatever the day holds, which might be a neuro-rehabilitation gym session, a hospital appointment, or a quiet morning at home with light domestic tasks and conversation.
The participant is a wheelchair user with high physical support needs.
The team is small which means consistency matters. We're looking for someone who wants a regular shift she can commit to, not occasional pick-up work.
What you'd be doing
Personal care
- Showering using a shower chair, grooming, dressing and oral hygiene
- Toileting, continence support and bowel care
- Indwelling catheter care, emptying and monitoring the urine drainage bag, recording output
- Repositioning and pressure area care
Manual handling
- Hoist transfers between bed, commode chair, shower chair and wheelchair
- Safe manual handling in line with his care plan - training and a documented transfer procedure are provided
Health and wellbeing
- Assisting with medication as per the medication chart
- Supporting prescribed exercise program - bed exercises, hand and leg work, mobility practice
- Monitoring and reporting any change in condition
Cooking, meals and hydration
- Preparing breakfast and a cooked lunch daily
- Confident home cooking is central to this role - the participant enjoys Filipino dishes and would like someone who can cook them well
- Assisting with eating where needed
- Encouraging and recording fluid intake
Daily life
- Light domestic tasks - dishes, kitchen surfaces, tidying, rubbish
- Supporting phone calls and correspondence
- Accompanying him to appointments and community activities, including transport support
- Company and conversation
Documentation
- Detailed hourly running notes for every shift
- Bowel, fluid and output charts
- Incident reporting where required
What you'll need - Essential or willingness to obtain before commencement
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Demonstrated experience with hoist transfers and manual handling
- Experience with personal care, continence and catheter care
- Confident cook
- Right to work in Australia
- Two contactable referees from disability or aged care work
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or Community Services
- Experience supporting people with complex physical disability or acquired brain injury
- Medication administration competency
What we offer
- A consistent, predictable roster - the same shift each week
- Paid handover with the outgoing worker and time to learn the routine properly
- A small team where you'll know everyone and be supported by a coordinator who answers the phone
- Ongoing training in manual handling and continence care
