With extensive experience in contentious and non-contentious employment and industrial matters, our workplace relations team is highly regarded. Our industry experience includes the retail and service sectors, finance, professional services, healthcare, education, construction, engineering and manufacturing, with our clients ranging from small privately owned businesses to large companies with several thousand employees, being a mixture of professional, executive, managerial, trade, administrative staff and contractors.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Draft and review documentation including client policies, procedures, and codes of conduct, under supervision
- Prepare and conduct legal education training for clients.
- Conduct safety, regulatory and safeguarding audits and gap analyses, under supervision
- Carriage of client files in a range of legal matters of varying complexity including unfair dismissals, general protection claims, human rights complaints, investigating and responding to complaints made against institutions to regulators by their clients, under supervision
- Draft correspondence and documentation for clients, including letters of advice, investigation and audit reports, communications with regulators and stakeholders, under supervision
- Research and prepare articles and resources to be published on the CBP website and social media channels. We are keen to promote you and your expertise in this area and you will have the opportunity to contribute to our various platforms and professional development partnerships
- Conduct legal research as required
- Keep accurate and complete records of work activities in accordance with legislative requirements, information security and privacy policies
- Any other reasonable tasks and responsibilities as requested by the Principal Lawyer or other supervisor
- Undertake safety, compliance and safeguarding investigations, under supervision, including:
o Reviewing documentation. Preparing and interviewing complainant(s), witnesses and subject of allegations.
o Drafting and finalising of investigation reports consistent with requirements of the Reportable Conduct Scheme or other relevant frameworks
o Liaison with clients, governing bodies, and regulators
o Drafting correspondence
o Identification of allegations outside of the scope of the investigation and seeking instructions
o Identification of systemic safeguarding concerns and providing advice on other matters arising

Ideal background and skills include:
- Must have 1+ years' PQE experience. Experience in employment and safety law will be valued but is not necessarily essential if
you have other relevant regulatory or sector experience e.g. education, child protection, social services, government, disability and aged care services
- Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a cohesive, positive, and collaborative environment. Emotional intelligence, including self-awareness and empathy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to maintain relationships with all key stakeholders
- Commitment to the not-for-profit sector, including education, disability and aged care services
- A keen interest in public policy and the work of government at various levels
- Ability to receive constructive feedback to improve technical skills and competencies
- Effective time management and autonomy in managing workflow
- Ability to identify and address problems with strategic thinking through a demonstrated growth mindset
- Strong work ethic and high level of self-discipline and professionalism
- Experience conducting investigations (preferred)
- Experience drafting contracts, policies and conducting compliance audits (preferred)
- Experience or interest in drafting and delivering training sessions
- Proven ability to consistently achieve set goals or targets
- Ability to take direction from senior lawyers and provide effective support
- Demonstrated learning and growth mindset with a commitment to develop and master the skills necessary to be a successful safeguarding lawyer
