At Equans ANZ, we're looking for an experienced Financial Controller to become a trusted advisor to our leadership team and play a critical role in driving the financial success of our Audio Visual business.
This is far more than a traditional accounting role. You'll partner closely with the General Manager, CFO and operational leaders to provide strategic financial insight, support major business decisions, improve profitability, and help shape the future direction of the business.

About the Role
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the financial control and reporting functions for the Audio Visual business. You will be responsible for managing month-end and year-end reporting, forecasting, budgeting, business performance analysis, risk management, and supporting strategic decision-making.
You'll work collaboratively with operational leaders across projects, branches and states to ensure strong financial performance while identifying opportunities for growth, efficiency and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
- Lead month-end and year-end financial close activities, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong financial controls.
- Support annual audits and statutory reporting requirements.
- Review and monitor SG&A expenditure and business profitability.
Business Partnering & Commercial Analysis
- Partner with the General Manager and leadership team to provide strategic financial insights.
- Develop business cases, financial models and performance analysis to support key business decisions.
- Analyse financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct branch, state and project-level profitability analysis, including revenue and margin reporting.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and long-term business planning.
Project & Operational Finance
- Coordinate project reviews and profit recognition with Project Managers and operational leaders.
- Monitor project financial performance, contract risks, labour recoverability and workforce planning.
- Work closely with Operations to maintain healthy Work in Progress (WIP) balances.
- Monitor inventory levels and support adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Partner with Accounts Receivable teams to improve debtor performance and cash flow outcomes.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Monitor contract risk exposure and ensure effective risk controls are maintained.
- Evaluate and strengthen internal control frameworks.
- Support fraud prevention, financial integrity and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ensure adherence to company financial policies and governance requirements.
Leadership & Culture
- Support transformational improvement initiatives across the business.
- Promote continuous learning, development and high-performance culture.
- Engage teams through collaboration, coaching and positive influence.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent) highly regarded.
Experience & Technical Skills
- 5-10+ years' experience in a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role.
- Strong commercial acumen and business partnering capability.
- Advanced Excel skills and financial modelling expertise.
- Excellent financial analysis and reporting experience.
- Sound knowledge of accounting standards and financial controls.
- Experience supporting project-based businesses highly desirable.
- Exposure to Workday, GP, EXO or PRONTO systems advantageous.
- Experience with SQL and ODBC reporting tools is beneficial.
- Building, construction, engineering or services industry experience highly regarded.
