About the Role
We are seeking an outstanding educational leader to join our Senior School leadership team as Deputy Head of Senior School – Learning, commencing January 2027.
This is a fixed-term, full-time significant leadership opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about curriculum innovation, student achievement, and fostering a learning culture that reflects the School’s Quaker values and Purpose and Concerns. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Senior School leadership team, learning leaders, coordinators, and teaching staff to ensure exceptional educational outcomes while supporting a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Key Focus Areas
- Provide strategic leadership of teaching and learning across Years 9–12, ensuring excellence in curriculum, assessment, reporting, and student outcomes.
- Lead the delivery and ongoing development of the Australian Curriculum, IB Diploma Programme, TCE, and VET pathways.
- Oversee curriculum planning, subject selection, timetabling, and staffing to support high-quality learning experiences.
- Foster a culture of professional growth through the leadership, mentoring, and development of teaching staff.
- Ensure learning programs meet the diverse needs of students, supporting extension, acceleration, wellbeing, and pathways initiatives.
- Contribute to whole-school leadership through collaboration with senior leaders, support for enrolment and scholarship processes, and active participation in strategic planning.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and current teacher registration.
- Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People and National Police Check.
- Demonstrated commitment to child safeguarding and the implementation of the National Child Safe Standards.
- Proven leadership experience in a secondary school setting, with the ability to lead staff, manage change, and foster a positive learning culture.
- Thorough knowledge of the Australian Curriculum (Years 9–10) and contemporary teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
- Strong relational leadership skills with a student-centred approach and a commitment to student wellbeing and achievement.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative teams and develop staff capability through mentoring, coaching, and professional learning.
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, families, and the broader school community.
- Alignment with The Friends' School's Quaker values, Purpose and Concerns, and commitment to contributing to the cultural life of the School.
- Proven ability to work strategically and collaboratively to achieve organisational priorities and continuous improvement.
