Denmark House is looking for a qualified and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team in a full-time position.
Located in the heart of Melbourne CBD, Denmark House is home to the Danish Club and operates as a restaurant, bar, members’ club and function venue. Our food is grounded in Danish and Scandinavian traditions, while taking a contemporary approach to ingredients, presentation and seasonal dining.
Our offering ranges from traditional and modern smørrebrød at lunch through to à la carte and shared-style dining in the evening, alongside canapés, private functions, member events and special menus throughout the year.
The role
This is a hands-on full-time position working Tuesday to Saturday, across our lunch and dinner services.
Our restaurant trading hours are:
Tuesday-Saturday
Lunch: 12:00pm-2:30pm
Dinner: 5:00pm-8:00pm
The successful candidate will work closely with the kitchen and management team across day-to-day restaurant service, functions and events.
Responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and delivering food to a consistently high standard
- Working across both lunch and dinner service
- Preparation of smørrebrød, à la carte dishes, shared menus, canapés and function food
- Maintaining strong standards of presentation, portion control and consistency
- Mise en place and preparation for upcoming services and events
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards
- Assisting with stock management, ordering and minimising food waste
- Working collaboratively with both the kitchen and front-of-house teams
- Contributing ideas to seasonal dishes, specials and event menus
About you
We are specifically looking for a qualified Chef, and only applicants with recognised cookery/chef qualifications and relevant professional kitchen experience will be considered.
You will ideally have:
- Formal commercial cookery qualifications
- Previous experience in a professional restaurant kitchen
- Strong food preparation and service skills
- Good organisation and time management
- An understanding of food safety and kitchen procedures
- Pride in presentation and consistency
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a small team
- An interest in Danish, Nordic or European cuisine is advantageous, but not essential
Most importantly, we are looking for someone reliable who takes ownership of their section and wants to contribute positively to a close-knit venue and team.
