About the Role
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Mental Health Service (HKMHS) provides a comprehensive range of community and inpatient mental health services for care for the consumers presenting with psychiatric emergencies of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai catchment area, as well as other sectors of the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). The position requires close liaison and consultation with the Emergency Department of the Hornsby hospital. The Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) is co-located within the Emergency Department.
The position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of:
- the care of consumers admitted to PECC including consumers age 14 and above in collaboration with CYMHS
- PECC clinical governance, clinical quality and safety and clinical key performance indicators
- implementation and evaluation of PECC clinical service plans and models of care - providing effective leadership and liaison with colleagues in the Emergency Department to ensure effective mental health assessment and care in collaboration for all ED presentations.
- ensuring strategic focus within ED to minimise negative outcomes in key areas such as AWOL, re-presentations to ED and ensuring comprehensive care planning for complex MH needs.
Purpose of the Position
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility under your care. This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).\
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the district.
