- Proven experience and sound knowledge of speech pathology techniques, including observation, assessment and intervention for students with, language, communication and literacy needs and the ability to provide specialist recommendations.
- Exemplary skills and experience in the development and delivery of interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) approach, in a school setting.

Role Purpose
The Speech Pathologist will work collaboratively with students, teachers, education support staff, families and relevant professionals to support students with speech, language, communication and related literacy needs.
The role will operate within the college¿s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and contribute specialist expertise across universal, targeted and individual supports.
A key focus of the role will be supporting students to access learning, developing practical strategies for use within classrooms and building the confidence and capability of staff to respond effectively to communication and language needs.
Where appropriate and within the scope of the role, the Speech Pathologist may undertake limited observation or screening to inform their work with students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Speech, Language and Communication Support
- Provide specialist advice and support regarding students with speech, language, communication and related literacy needs.
- Work with teachers and education support staff to develop practical strategies that support student participation and access to learning.
- Assist staff to understand how communication and language needs may affect learning, engagement and participation.
- Develop and share practical resources that support effective classroom practice.
Multi-Tiered System of Supports
- Work within the college¿s MTSS framework to support students at universal, targeted and individual levels.
- Contribute specialist knowledge to Tier 1 classroom approaches that support oral language, vocabulary, comprehension, expressive language and communication.
- Support or deliver targeted Tier 2 interventions for individual students or small groups where an identified need exists.
- Provide individualised intervention or consultation for students with more significant or persistent communication needs where appropriate.
- Work with relevant staff to monitor student progress and determine appropriate next steps.
Student Support and Intervention
- Work directly with students individually or in small groups where speech pathology intervention is appropriate.
- Provide practical strategies and recommendations that support students within the educational setting.
- Where appropriate, undertake limited observation or screening to inform intervention and support.
- Review student progress and adjust supports or interventions where required.
- Assist staff to embed relevant strategies within everyday classroom practice.
Literacy and Learning
- Work collaboratively with literacy and intervention staff, including the Kurunjang Literacy Program, where language or communication needs are affecting students¿ literacy development.
- Provide specialist support in areas including oral language, vocabulary, comprehension, expressive language and written language.
- Assist staff to recognise where speech or language needs may be contributing to difficulties with learning.
- Support evidence-informed strategies that improve students¿ access to curriculum and classroom instruction.
Staff Support and Professional Learning
- Provide guidance, consultation and practical support to teachers and education support staff.
- Contribute to professional learning relating to speech, language and communication where appropriate.
- Share relevant evidence-informed resources and approaches with staff.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with teaching and learning, wellbeing, engagement and student support staff.
- Liaise with Department Student Support Services and other allied health professionals where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with external professionals involved in supporting students.
Professional Practice and Administration
- Maintain appropriate records of consultations, interventions and recommendations.
- Manage workload and priorities in consultation with the relevant college leader.
- Maintain contemporary professional knowledge and engage in relevant professional learning.
- Work in accordance with Department requirements, professional standards, confidentiality requirements and Child Safe Standards.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the role and classification of an Education Support Class Level 1 Range 5 Speech Pathologist.
