Radiation Oncology is an exciting specialty combining state of the art technology, evidence-based medicine and holistic care of patients with Cancer. Under the direct supervision of our Staff Specialists in Radiation Oncology the primary purpose of this Senior Resident Medical Officer position is to provide excellent care to patients attending the Cancer Care Centre at St. George Hospital.
During this role we expect you to develop knowledge and skills in managing curative and palliative cancers and learn how Radiotherapy can assist in their management. The role includes care of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, along with a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication and multidisciplinary interaction. Participation in a formal in-house teaching programme will increase your knowledge of specific cancer management, side effects, symptom control and Radiotherapy techniques. Presentation at meetings and engagement in research and quality assurance is required.
This role would suit a SRMO considering Radiation Oncology as a career with the view to pursuing an accredited position in the future. The position is also suitable to candidates interested in Medical Oncology and Palliative Care that are looking to increase their knowledge of Radiation Oncology.
Our clinical terms are structured to encompass a broad range of tumour sites and care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Prospective trainees will be provided with extensive exposure to both conventional radiotherapy technologies but also specialised treatment techniques, including a comprehensive brachytherapy program, CNS, liver and lung SBRT.
To be able to apply, the applicants must have at least two years post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Has completed at least 2 post graduate years.
- Demonstrated interest in Oncology/ Palliative care
- Demonstrated commitment to training in Radiation Oncology
- Demonstrated teamwork within a multidisciplinary team in a complex and challenging clinical environment, with high level time management, problem solving and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
- Demonstrated interest and willingness to teach Junior Medical Staff and participate in research
- Preparedness and ability to work independently in a supervised environment. Preparedness to participate in overtime as required.
