NMR operates the Blackjack Processing Plant, based in the Charters Towers region of Northern Queensland as part of a new and exciting transformational acquisition. This acquisition provides the immediate core with extensive exploration potential; several additional projects currently being prioritised and also offers significant upside through resource growth opportunities.
We are seeking a motivated Metallurgist to join our processing team at the Blackjack Processing Plant in Charters Towers. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded professional to contribute to plant optimisation, metallurgical accounting, test work and continuous improvement in a practical site-based role.
About the role
Reporting to the Processing Superintendent, the Metallurgist will support the optimisation of metallurgical processes across the processing plant, helping to improve operational efficiency, recovery, reporting accuracy and compliance with safety and quality standards.
This role will suit someone who enjoys working with data, solving operational problems, collaborating with plant teams and turning metallurgical insights into practical improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Processing Superintendent and Senior Metallurgists in setting metallurgical targets.
- Assist with setting operational parameters to achieve or exceed budget results.
- Apply strategic thinking to support budget performance and operational improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance to operational staff and help ensure metallurgical targets are achieved.
- Ensure all projects and activities comply with relevant Australian Acts, mine regulations, and health, safety and environmental standards.
- Provide detailed reports on daily plant performance, project works and test works in a timely manner.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong analytical capability, a practical approach to problem solving and the ability to communicate effectively with operational and technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a gold processing plant, with CIL and/or gravity circuit experience preferred.
- Knowledge of metallurgical accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Experience in process monitoring, test work, troubleshooting and plant optimisation.
- Understanding of sampling techniques, data analysis and quality control.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Current Manual Driver’s Licence.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety, environmental compliance and quality standards.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
