Junior Software Engineer / Quantitative Developer / Quantitative Analyst (C#/.NET) — Systematic Hedge Fund
Join a systematic hedge fund that combines quantitative research, machine learning and sophisticated software engineering to trade global FX and futures markets.
For more than a decade, we've built high-speed, real-time autonomous trading systems, and our small team gives talented developers the opportunity to work on technically demanding, meaningful problems from day one.
About the Role
We're looking for a Junior Software Engineer with 1–2 years of professional development experience to join our technology team. The role begins with a strong software-engineering focus, working alongside experienced software engineers, quantitative developers and quantitative researchers on systems designed for rigour, transparency and automation — with the direction it takes from there shaped by your interests and capability (see Career Development below).
You'll gain broad exposure to the systems, data and research processes behind systematic trading, while progressively taking ownership of more complex work.
You will:
-
Develop and maintain C#/.NET applications, with exposure to SQL, NoSQL, AWS, Grafana, Python and MATLAB.
- Build and maintain the systems that collect, process and distribute real-time market and trading data.
- Contribute to the implementation, testing, monitoring and production support of trading models and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with developers and quantitative researchers to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, automated testing and the continuous improvement of production systems.
Career Development
As you develop, you may progress toward one or more of:
-
Software engineering — owning increasingly important components of our trading, data and infrastructure platforms.
- Quantitative development — building research platforms, model infrastructure, data pipelines and back-testing tools.
- Quantitative analysis — analysing market and trading data, testing hypotheses and contributing to research and strategy.
Progression is based on capability, contribution and interest, rather than a fixed timeframe.
About You
We welcome applicants from strong software-engineering or quantitative STEM backgrounds. You may be:
-
A software engineer or computer science graduate who wants to apply strong development skills in systematic trading and build quantitative expertise over time; or
- A mathematics, physics, engineering or other STEM graduate with strong computing skills who wants to build production systems while developing toward quantitative development or analysis.
You'll have:
-
1–2 years of professional software-development experience, or a strong undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related STEM discipline, with excellent computing skills.
- Experience with C#/.NET preferred; strong Java, C++ or other object-oriented programming experience will also be considered.
- A sound understanding of fundamental software-engineering concepts.
- Experience working with databases and writing SQL.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to writing reliable, maintainable code.
- Curiosity and a desire to understand why systems behave as they do, not simply make them work.
Nice to have:
-
Experience with any of the following is advantageous but not essential: Unix/Linux, Python, AWS, networking or distributed systems, time-series data, data engineering or data visualisation, or financial markets, trading systems, quantitative research or back-testing.
You don't need previous finance or trading experience. We care most about strong technical fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, analytical ability and the drive to learn.
Full working rights in Australia required. Sponsorship is not available.
Why Join Us?
Technology is central to the business here. You'll get structured 1-on-1 time with senior engineers and researchers — not just shadowing, but mentoring built into how we work — plus exposure to real-time, high-performance systems and live global FX and futures markets that most junior roles won't offer.
You'll also get:
-
A competitive salary, plus a performance-based bonus that can meaningfully add to your total compensation.
- A fast interview process: a technical screen, followed by a team conversation.
If you want to develop quickly, build challenging production technology and establish strong foundations in systematic trading and quantitative finance, we'd love to hear from you.
