Are you a detail orientated professional with strong payroll and finance skills? Berrigan Shire Council is seeking a Payroll & Finance Officer to play a key role in ensuring the accurate, compliant, and timely delivery of payroll services while supporting Council’s broader finance functions.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Deliver accurate and timely end-to-end processing of Council’s fortnightly payroll, including validating
timesheets, payroll variations, leave entitlements, and termination payments
- Maintain payroll integrity through validation, reconciliation and adherence to internal controls and confidentiality requirements
- Respond to payroll enquiries from employees, management, and external stakeholders in a professional and timely manner
- Contribute as a flexible and collaborative member of the Finance Team, supporting a range of finance functions as required
What You’ll Need:
- Qualification in Payroll, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in payroll processing and administration
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation, processes and best practices
- High level customer service skills with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders
- Current Australian Driver Licence
- Ability to maintain a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
Highly Regarded:
- Previous Local Government Experience
- Knowledge and experience using Civica Authority and/or Civica Altitude
- Understanding of the NSW Local Government (State) Award

This position is a full-time position classified at Grade E, Entry Level under Council’s salary structure with a salary range based on qualifications and experience from $69,619.00 to $78,355.91 per annum plus 12% statutory superannuation.
This role operates on a 70-hour, 9-day fortnight, with conditions aligned to the Local Government (State) Award 2023.
