About the Role
JK Lawyers is looking for a lawyer with genuine commercial and dispute resolution experience to join the team in a permanent, full-time role based in Notting Hill, Melbourne.
You'll work with individuals and small business owners across a broad range of commercial and civil matters — property disputes, leases, business structures and compliance, employment issues, terms of trade, contractual obligations, and dispute resolution. You'll manage your own clients and files from first instructions through to resolution, including court work in VCAT, the Magistrates' Court, County Court, and Supreme Court.
This is a role for someone who wants to do meaningful work with real autonomy, strong support, and room to grow.
What You'll Do
- Manage cases end-to-end — from initial instructions through negotiation, drafting, court preparation, and resolution
- Deliver commercial and dispute resolution advice, draft contracts, letters of demand, court documents, and correspondence
- Prepare and run applications across VCAT and all levels of the Victorian court system
- Undertake advocacy where appropriate and brief barristers when required
- Maintain strong client communication and efficient file management
- Contribute to the firm's financial targets and service standards
What You Bring
- Victorian admission to practice is preferred, though interstate admissions will be considered
- 3+ years post-admission experience
- Solid grounding in commercial law, dispute resolution, and civil procedure
- Confidence managing your own files, clients, and court appearances
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
- Commercial awareness and reliability
- Experience with Smokeball or similar practice management software is a plus
What's on Offer
- $115,000–$125,000 plus superannuation, negotiable based on experience and performance
- Hybrid flexibility after probation — typically 3–4 days in office
- Genuine career progression opportunities
- Modern systems, work laptop, and up-to-date practice management tools
- A supportive, collaborative culture with transparent mentorship
- High-quality, diverse legal work
- Team-building activities and a genuine culture of care
Pay: $115,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year
