About the role:
This role is critical to the leadership and integrity of the Drug and Alcohol Testing Program and is part of a small team of collectors responsible for the drug and alcohol testing of Victoria Police employees. The Drug and Alcohol Testing Unit (DATU) is led by an Inspector, and each team has a team leader. The unit is responsible for supporting Victoria Police's commitment to provide a safe workplace. DATU aims to ensure all employees are healthy, fit, ready and capable to perform their duties and to deliver an ethical and professional service to the organisation and the community.
DATU is responsible for:

managing the overall drug and alcohol testing program on behalf of the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police.

arranging the collection and testing of samples by collectors and service providers.
-
managing relevant contracts with and acting as the contact point for collectors and service providers as required.
-
maintaining records of all tests conducted tests.
-
receiving, recording and communicating test results.
-
overseeing the process for assessing and managing test results.
-
assisting the Senior Police Medical Officer with disputed positive test results.
-
Improving drug and alcohol testing legislation, policies and procedures within DATU
-
providing high-level advice on drug and alcohol testing legislation, policies and procedures.

Your duties will include:
- Leading, coordinating and managing a small team of collectors to deliver the drug and alcohol testing program.

Manage, coach and mentor individual team members to ensure performance objectives are met.

Work cooperatively to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships.

Demonstrate, lead and provide safe work practices for your own, as well as others health, safety and wellbeing.

Provide guidance and informed advice to prevent the inappropriate dissemination of sensitive and confidential information in line with legislation and policy.

Model's standards of behaviour and adapts communication style to challenge inappropriate attitudes, language and behaviours.

Leading, coordinating and conducting varying drug and alcohol testing regimes in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures within Victoria Police
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
-
Experience or good understanding in on-site drug & alcohol testing.
-
Experience in leading small teams.
-
Ability to identify causes of low morale or conflict and deal with issues effectively and fairly by treating people with respect, courtesy and dignity.

Capability to remain calm and maintain composure in difficult situations to resolve incidents.
-
Capacity to take responsibility for own decisions and actions, acknowledges mistakes and learns from the experience.

Aptitude to drive performance, show initiative and be proactive to ensure business priorities, deadlines and service delivery is met.

Be self-motivated and motivate others

Ability to work unsupervised and at times alone

Good report writing skills

Ability to learn, comprehend, implement and communicate process, policy and legislation of DATU to others

This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.

This position requires shift work as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).

In accordance with the provisions of the Victoria Police Act, this unit is a Designated Workplace for the purposes of Drug and Alcohol testing. On direction, all employees in this unit must participate in designated work unit testing and targeted testing.

The position requires the successful applicant to work a rotating roster, including shift work, some public holidays and weekends.
-
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
