What you'll be doing
We are seeking a high-quality, dedicated and enthusiastic Advanced Trainee to join the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Paediatric Department and Youth Drug Health Service. This innovative 12-month position combines six months of accredited Advanced Training in General Paediatrics and six months in Adolescent Addiction Medicine, providing a unique opportunity to develop expertise across both acute paediatric care and adolescent health. The position is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for six months of General Paediatrics Advanced Training and six months of Community and Child Health/non-core Paediatric Advanced Training.
The primary function of this position is to provide high-quality, evidence-based clinical care under supervision to children and adolescents requiring inpatient, ambulatory and community-based medical services. During the General Paediatrics term, the trainee will gain broad exposure to acute and chronic paediatric conditions through inpatient, outpatient and virtual models of care. During the Adolescent Addiction Medicine term, the trainee will develop clinical, research and multidisciplinary expertise in the assessment and management of young people presenting with substance use disorders and associated medical, developmental and psychosocial complexities, including withdrawal management and relapse prevention.
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and one of Australia's leading tertiary hospitals. The Department of Paediatrics provides a comprehensive range of services, including a busy inpatient ward, Hospital in the Home program, acute review clinics, general paediatric outpatient services, medical support to the Parent Baby Unit and RPAVirtual, Australia's first virtual hospital. The Youth Drug Health Service delivers specialist multidisciplinary care for adolescents with substance use and related health concerns, providing trainees with valuable experience in integrated models of adolescent healthcare.
