Associate / Senior Associate / Technical Director – Flood Modelling
Melbourne, VIC | Sydney, NSW
The Opportunity
We are continuing to grow our flood modelling capability and are seeking experienced professionals to join our team at an Associate, Senior Associate, or Technical Director level. This presents a career-defining opportunity to work on complex flood and stormwater projects across sectors including major infrastructure, energy, aviation, water, and defence. You will play a key role in shaping technical outcomes, mentoring our team, and strengthening client relationships across Australia and the Asia-Pacific, while working within a collaborative and high-performing environment where technical excellence and knowledge sharing are central to how we operate.
About The Role
In this role, you will combine deep technical expertise in flood modelling with leadership, project delivery, and client engagement responsibilities.
You will lead and deliver flood modelling, hydrology, and hydraulic assessments across a diverse portfolio of projects, applying advanced tools and knowledge to develop robust solutions to complex project challenges. The role is on the tools, and includes providing technical oversight and reviewing modelling outputs to deliver quality and consistency, as well as developing practical and defensible solutions to complex flood risk challenges. You will also contribute to driving and continuous improvement in modelling approaches.
You will be responsible for leading projects from concept through to detailed design, ensuring outcomes are delivered on time and within budget. This includes managing multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs, and maintaining high standards of technical excellence and documentation across all deliverables. You will proactively identify risks and implement sound project and financial management practices.
A key part of the role involves building strong relationships with clients, including infrastructure owners, water authorities, and councils, and acting as a trusted advisor by understanding client needs and influencing outcomes. You will identify and secure new opportunities, contributing to the growth of flood and water services, and represent the business through industry engagement and professional networks.
You will assist in the mentoring and growth of a team of flood modellers, including fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, as well as supporting capability development and succession planning within the team.
About You
You will hold a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline, and be an Engineers Australia Chartered Engineer. You will bring strong experience in flood modelling within a consulting environment, including proficiency with tools such as TUFLOW, RORB, and similar platforms.
You will possess strong expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and floodplain management, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems. Your experience will include managing projects, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams, supported by strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
We are open to candidates across multiple leadership levels. At the Associate level, you will be a recognised flood modelling specialist with strong project delivery experience and emerging leadership capability. At the Senior Associate level, you will be a trusted advisor to clients with demonstrated technical leadership and project delivery experience. At the Technical Director level, you will be an industry leader with deep expertise, strong client networks, and a proven ability to lead major projects and drive business growth.
